Authentic Ancient Roman Ring - Bronze - 1st - 3rd. Century A.D.

This is an authentic Roman ring made of bronze.

This ring has been dated to the first to third century A.D. thus making it between 1700 and 2000 years old!

It is in very good, unrestored condition and was unearthed at a dig site in the ancient Roman province of Moesia which roughly corresponds to parts of Serbia and Bulgaria in the Balkan region, Eastern Europe, an area where the Romans often went to war to subdue the East Celts.

Holding this artefact in one's hands, one can almost feel the power, glory and might of the Roman Empire!

This is one noticeable ring, that's for sure!

This ring has a very large bezel with some nice engravings on it. The bezel is in the shape of a large shield that measures 11mm in diameter.

The design makes use of the traditional concentric circle with the deep central dot motif. While this decorating technique was used for magical purposes . There are five of the circles on this ring's bezel face.

These rings were originally made as votive rings to seek the aid of the gods and goddesses and in later period were bought in the hopes of warding off the "Evil Eye".

The number 5 is of special significance and is associated with "Mars" the God of War. It is interesting to note that in later years, the five circles would be put on the bezel in the shape of a Cross, instead of the way they look on a gambling die. When done as the Cross, it stands for the 5 Wounds of Christ and when they were done this way, for the God Mars. A coincidence?

The ring does have a definite decorative quality to it and will surely be noticed wherever it is worn.

Everybody can go to the shopping mall and simply pick a new piece of jewelry out of enormous stocks of freshly made items but how many of you have ever given (or gotten!) a present to a near or dear one with such history embedded into it, such character, the patina of 1700 years battling the elements and so unique that there is truely only ONE of it in the world?

Imagine that 1700 years ago, a Roman citizen had this ring commissioned and it was actually worn...

Wouldn't it be great if some 1700 years later, this process would be repeated?

We qualify this ring as restored and perfectly wearable.

It weighs 3.00 grams.

Possibly your local jeweler could resize it to make it fit perfectly.
