Roman Earrings

Jewellery can be very useful to archaeologists and Historians. Jewellery equates to cultural adornment and disposeable wealth as well as values and beliefs. Earings have been worn by many cultures throughout history. The ancient romans were particularly fond of earrings.

We know that the Roman ladies wore earings because wall paintings have survived where earings are clearly visible and in rare cases earrings are found at dig sites. It seems nothing sets off a clean toga like a bit of gold.

ALL items listed on this page are AUTHENTIC ancient Roman pieces which we guarantee for life to be of the material and period stated.

Authentic Ancient Roman Earring - Gold - 3rd. Century A.D.

This is a great, SINGLE authentic Roman earring made of gold.

The hoop is made of gold wire, with a convex disc mounted on it with a turned edge wire. It measures some 15 mm.

It is in good, unrestored condition and was unearthed at a dig site in the ancient Roman province of Moesia which roughly corresponds to parts of Serbia and Bulgaria in the Balkan region, Eastern Europe, an area where the Romans often went to war to subdue the East Celts.

Holding this artifact in one's hands, one can almost feel the power, glory and might of the Roman Empire!

We are firm believers that the authenticity of ancient items should be maintained but it is highly unlikely that the matching earring will ever be found to make a complete set again.

A single earring will not be worn so it is better to convert this earring into a wearable piece of jewelry so that it can do what it was originally intended for, to charm humanity while being worn.

For this reason we will soon have it converted into a pendant, maintaining as much of its original shape and patina as possible.

For the time being we are offering it "as-is".

It weighs 0.46 grams.
